Steve Jobs, co-founder, chairman and former chief executive of Apple Inc., has passed away at the age of 56 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jobs stepped down from his post at Apple in August and the impact he had on technology and how we use it can’t be overstated. The striking proof of that can be seen, for example, in the fact that I, like I’m sure many of you, found out about Jobs passing while using one of the gadgets he created, the iPhone 4, and I sit here now writing of his passing on Apple’s MacBook Pro. (Today, coincidentally enough, also saw the launch of the iPhone 4S.) Our thoughts are with his family and friends, especially, but the passing of this great inventor is certainly a loss for the world.
More than one pundit, praising Jobs’ ability to transform entire industries with his inventions, called him a modern-day Leonardo Da Vinci.
“Steve Jobs is one of the great innovators in the history of modern capitalism,” New York Times columnist Joe Nocera said in August. “His intuition has been phenomenal over the years.”
