This has to be the first post I’ve done for my iPhone app which is called “InsanelyTech” obviously named after this site and gets the articles I post, which you’ve probably gathered already. So without a further a do let’s jump right in and let me explain what this version updates to the current version (1.0.5):
#1 Data Collection
Now you’re probably sceptical about this as much as anyone else, but I can rest assure this doesn’t collect any personal data such as Contacts (Address Book), or any identifying information about yourself – all it collects is the device UDID, here’s some information about the device’s UDID (courtesy of thefreedictionary.com):
(iPhone Unique Device ID) A number in each iPhone that is used by developers to distribute new apps directly into the phone for testing purposes before they are available in the App Store. The UDIDs are used to create an Apple-certified provisioning file that is dragged with the app into iTunes.
the app also collects the devices version (current installed firmware) e.g. “iOS 4.3.5″, and lastly the software build for that current installed firmware.
#2 Performance Increase
When it comes to getting stuff from a third-party server the device needs to download this information and then display it to the end-user (you), and this requires an active internet connection either Wifi, 3G or Edge but the downside to that this can cause the UI (User Interface) to freeze up while the app performs this task, so it’s my duty to find methods on ways to prevent blocking the UI while the app gets the feed – at the moment it’s fine as I’ve implemented a few little fixes but there’s still some lag there on scrolling – so this will be fixed in v1.0.6.
#3 New About Screen
Not much to say here about this but I will say that the current about screen is fine but it will be updated to reflect the current update so do check it out when the update is released.
